Safety
| Class 1 Only a Class 1 laser offers absolute safety in operation. This is regardless of whether one is dealing with very small laser diodes as in a CD or DVD player, or high-power laser sources. In determining the safety class the only important factor is whether it is guaranteed that no dangerous radiation can escape. Most laser sources used in industrial applications have an invisible light (almost always infrared, as in carbon dioxide lasers or Nd:YAG lasers) and the beam cannot be seen. Even the popular laser pointers can cause damage to the retina if open eyes are exposed to the light for longer periods. These sorts of visible, usually red, laser pointers have a typical output power of approximately 1 milliwatt. The laser sources in our engraving equipment typically have an output power of a few hundred watts. With these high output powers, suitable precautions are essential during service works (Class 4). |

Points to note
There are two particular sources of danger which must always be taken into account: firstly, suitable protective goggles are obligatory in any maintenance work involving open laser beams. Secondly, depending on the type of laser, the laser source may involve high voltages, which can represent a danger even after being switched off. It is particularly important therefore to train the maintenance personnel responsible in order to guarantee the highest level of safety.
